This is a Bible Study "worksheet" I received from a friend to help when reading scripture. I have the questions first and then I have my answers at the bottom. And I think I will make my own, separate blog different than our family, picture and kid filled blog!! I will send out a link to those that care to follow.
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man/woman of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work" 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Read Genesis 3:1-13 (get that Bible out, a highlighter and a pen...and it is okay to write in your Bible...repeat that with me..."it's okay"!!)
1. Summarize in a few sentences what the passage is about:
2. Is there an example for me to follow?
3. Is there an error I need to avoid?
4. Is there a command for me to obey?
5. Is there a sin I need to forsake?
6. What application of this passage can I make today?
Okay, well here are my answers and remember this is my opinion and I'm being "open" so don't nobody tear me up too much! ;-) And I am just putting Genesis 3:1-13 here, if you would like, back and read the first two chapters, you always learn something new!!
This is the Fall of Man [and woman]
1. The "Serpent" tempts the woman with fruit to be like God, and twists God's word, putting doubt in her, and showing how desirable it would be to gain wisdom; she gives some to her husband; and they realize they are naked and hide from God; then the man says "she told me too" and she says "the serpent told me too!" It's funny how it says "she gave some to her husband who was with her" Did he not try to stop her or say anything like, uh, God said no!?
2. Not a good example, unless it's God for not striking down his first man and woman for disobeying!!
3. Don't play the blame game and don't hide from God.
4. When God says something straight forward like "don't do such and such" listen and obey!!
5. Blaming others when I need to take responsibility.
6. Try to not sin, and when I do (it will happen, I'm not perfect!) don't take anyone else down the bad road!
Well that's all for today, tomorrow will be verses 14-16. Quick but deep I think.
Jeremiah 29:11 ~ "For I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord. "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a hope and a future"

Trying something New
Well, this will be a word blog with no pictures...sorry!! (Unless I am able to find a quick pic!) This is not an update so much as it will be a journey. And I'm starting it here, but may start up another blog so you can still see pictures of the kids as they are growing without having to read too much!!
This is all I could find with pictures:
http://thebarnatbuladean.com/Gallery.html
I went to a retreat this past weekend for ministers' wives (I know, I know, how could that possibly include me??!!). The retreat took place in this little "bed-and-breakfast-type" home, nestled in the mountains, and it was called "the Barn at Buladean". Beautiful barn, gardens, trails, and cabins hidden away as a treasure! The couple who owns the place uses it for ministers to get away from the busyness of life and come back to nature, back to why they started serving for (sometimes) minimal pay, and Who they are serving. I wish I could have met the couple, but I know they probably would not like a lot of "hoopla"!
Well I mostly re-learned some things like "hey, you need to read your Bible everyday" (this is me thinking!!) and "God really has a lot of power and if I am willing, He will use me to display his power". I know I have learned about God's presence, promise, plan and power, but I forget as I get bogged down with dishes, lunches, cleaning, etc! The biggest thing I took away from my relaxing weekend was this: to make an effort everyday to read my Bible, by digging into His word to better know the God who created me.
So I made a schedule and I am working on putting God first. We are all a work in progress, so I challenge each of you to try and make that progress going in the right direction. And if I am able to really get to know my Father, I know I will be a better wife, mother, daughter, and friend. I mean, there are two young, innocent and pure beings who are counting on me to set the right example, apologize when I fail, and strive to "talk about God when we sit at home and when we walk along the road, when we lie down and when we get up" (Deuteronomy 6:7)
Well, would anyone like to journey with me through the Bible?? And I don't mean let's read through Bible in one year and compare who made it through faster. I mean, I am going to sit down, read maybe one chapter or just one small section, answer a few questions to make sure I am understanding what I read and applying it and growing closer to God as I find out more about him. I have tried those "through the Bible in one year" and I always fall off around the chapters where there are a lot of names and places I can't even pronounce!! And those parts bore me seem dull aren't as interesting as others!! ;-)
Well tomorrow I am going to get on and write type up a few questions you can ask yourself and then have my answers listed below so I don't think for anybody! I am just now (today) reading Genesis 3:1-13 (then I will do verses 14-16 Friday and verses 17-24 Saturday). Yep, it has taken me a day to go through some short chapters and I'm taking the next three days to go through one!! I'm talking SLOW!! But otherwise, I will slack off. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt!! So buckle up for the ride of your my life!

Camping Trip 2011
Well, we had a busy few weeks leading up to Easter weekend so Andy proposed leaving for a mini-vacation the day after Easter Sunday. Though we didn't plan much, we knew we wanted to camp and have been wanting to visit Shenandoah National Park. So we headed off Monday morning!

The next day we took off to hike & drive around Skyline Drive (just past the northern point of the Blue Ridge that connects the Shenandoah Nat'l Park to the Cherokee Nat'l Park). We started at the Visitor's Center and were told we could let the kids "lead" us on hikes through "Big Meadows". They loved leading the way!!

It was very easy hiking and running through the flat meadow, finding rocks to climb on and then seeing more deer in the

Then we drove towards the north end of the park and saw a place for horseback riding. (This was something we had looked up, but saw the height restrictions and knew we wouldn't be able to ride with the kids.) But we stopped anyway and saw some ponies standing around. So we asked about rides and the prices were very reasonable so we signed up. And they let us lead the kids on ponies around a small trail and we had so much fun with our first "horse" experience!!! I am so glad we stopped "just to check out the horses"!!!

Afterward, we grabbed some lunch and went "home" to crash for a while. Then we visited with some kind neighbors while our kids and their kids played together. That Tuesday night we had some rougher winds and woke up to a lot of rain so we decided to "move" somewhere else.

I call this the Buchanan Bridge, it was once a covered bridge before the Civil War, and was burned in order for a brigade to get away, or so my memory goes from the sign we read. Later it was rebuilt on the original bridge's position as a suspension bridge. If you look closely, you may be able to see how odd the entrance is curved and slanted!!
We took off for some breakfast and free Wi-Fi and found a KOA online that had cabins, so we headed down to Natural Bridge, VA. The "kamping kabins" were very nice, just a simple cabin with a bed, but a more substantial place to weather the storms. We only knew there might be hail and had no idea there was so much destruction to the south. While we were at the KOA, we enjoyed the playground and basketball court.
Thursday, we took off on the Blue Ridge Parkway and found some breathtaking scenery!! Because of all the rain, the mountains were cascading with waterfalls, the trees were covered in bright green and the view was clear! We stopped at another visitor center which was closed, but still enjoyed the hiking trail. Then headed up towards the Peaks of Otter and found the most scrumptious pizzaria, a lovely Apple Orchard (they even had a rental house we may check out on future visits!!), and overall a beautiful drive.
The one, lone picture of our "kabin" at KOA. I guess we forgot to bring out the camera at camp!!

On our way home, we decided to take a few back roads and were delighted by the beauty of southern Virgina!! We stopped at a waterfall for a picnic lunch and headed through our mountains to home. It was a slow trip with many stops, but we "worked our way home" as Hannah repeated several times!
