I'm BAAAACCCCKKKKK

Well, I hope you aren't scared, but I'm back to the wonderful world of blogging, or as I will now call it:WWB. Okay, maybe that won't stick, but it's worth a shot! And since it has been quite a while, I warn you: This Will Be LONG!!! Especially since I slept all day (I think it was just a sty on my eye!!). So consider yourself warned. ;-)

So, I have been busier than I would have thought this winter: in order to keep the winter blues away, I have saved painting, sewing, and other little projects for these past few months! It worked!! I love winters here!!! They are very mild to my way of thinking and we were never snowed in for long. I mean, our biggest amount of snow was to my estimation 10", though possibly more! And that's just the right amount to play in and make snow men in....or dress up snow men and women!!! Plus, we have been hiking and enjoying the beauty of snow.  We have really had so much fun:

Arabesque, it's one of her dance poses for her recital

Andy doing Hannah's dance pose!!
We (rather Andy) had to try out a
new place in town that had a gigantic burger!

Unfortunately, the burger conquered him

One Saturday, we took off in the van to conquer the woods....

Kim ended up conquering the icicles!!
They are bigger than they appear...and so much fun to karate kick!!! ;-)

Another time, my one of my best friends came to visit and we headed out to Rock Creek Park:

My kids during their "quiet times",
this time they were actually in their own rooms and being quite and quite silly!!

This boy loves his dog.
My other project:
making a divider between the kitchen and laundry,
I mean, it is loads of fun after all!!

And did I say sewing?? I think I have sewed more in the past 6 months than ever in my life! But I love to create things and see how cute material can turn into something cute AND useful! Well, having more than one pillow on the bed may not be useful...but who's counting!

Pillows a friend "ordered"!!!
The back of Noah's pillow, my first Nolan Owl Pillow!!

Hannah's Owl Pillow: Lola!!
And of course I had to make a matching pillowcase for her small pillow!!
And this is my latest sewing project!!
Hannah asked for a butterfly and Ariel pillow...
so this is how far we have come!
And you can see her recital dress in the upper right hand corner...
but that is all you get to see until the big day!
Now that Spring is in full glory, we have been out driving, hiking, biking and walking in wonderment of it all!!! I have never seen so many flowering trees, bushes and such bright colors! I thought Autumn was a beautiful time of year, but Spring has surpassed by far! There are trees that start out white and are slowly turning green from the top, there are tulip trees, bright yellow bushes blooming next to "Support Our Troops" ribbons of the same color, pale pink, lavender, light creams and red blossoms! Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but I think God has made everything around here beautiful. (That didn't really make any sense...::shrugs::...it's pretty late!!) I think that Autumn is the sunset as we prepare for winter and Spring is the Sunrise after the long, cold nights. Although, to my estimation Winter is just as beautiful, it's just not as colorful!

Andy, Kim and the kids took a drive last Friday night
in search of a waterfall, couldn't get too close to see the fall,
but we caught a beautiful sunset going down behind the mountains!!

Then just today, Noah and I went in search of
pretty flowering trees, shrubs and plants to showcase
our beautiful spring season, here in the "Valley Beautiful"

Well, with the arrival of spring, comes Hannah's 5th Birthday, Yes, I said she will be 5. AHHGG. I don't know what to do with a 5 year old! This means she will be starting kindergarten, which thus means she will be entering into school which also means the time will really fly!!!! So basically on her first day, I will be saying "goodbye, dear one, you are going to be graduating from college and moving away". That is how I feel and I can't seem to slow time down. Not that I know what we are going to do with her...are we going to Homeschool or send her to Public School?? My sister-in-law and one of my closest friends in FL home school their children and I have seen the positive aspects of homeschooling. But am I cut out for it? If I start this next year, will I continue or will I mess up my kids lives?? Yes, these are all the thoughts flowing through my mind!! However, for her birthday, we are going to take her and her bff for a girls private tea party!! Also, going to have lunch with the family and of course, cake and ice cream!! She is super excited!! Pictures of the birthday bash to come.

Budding Artists

It's probably been several weeks since I've posted anything so....here we go:

Hannah has loved to color since she was little, probably at least 2 and has really surprised me lately! She has really developed over the last 6 months and is drawing people that resemble: people. ;-)  And she is always telling stories, often that go along with her coloring or vice versa. I happened to capture part of a story today along with some pictures she has made.  (The video is on Facebook and I keep having a problem trying to load it since it's a whole 4 minutes long!!)

Noah on the other hand hasn't been as interested in coloring much but if Hannah does something, he wants to do the same.  Although he is greatly improving as well! He likes to color in objects and works really hard at covering the whole thing!! And I find the he can use either hand while coloring, though he prefers his left. Of course loves for me to draw him an airplane!! When I don't make one, he'll ask Daddy or Hannah to draw it.  Speaking of planes, about a month ago he picked out some airplane fabric for an apron. Well, it's taken that long for me to sit down and actually turn it from a yard of material to something that might protect his clothes when he "helps" in the kitchen! And he loved it; he wore it all afternoon!!  ;-)  I must add that I was able to use some scraps from a curtain panel that I cropped for Jen.

Hannah drew this airplane for Noah!
This one is Mommy
She also colored a Daddy figure that she gave him when he got home today, but the batteries have thus died!! And there is a picture of me as a little girl (yes, I'm even smaller) and Nana with a yellow dress and Pops (Lester) who is actually too small, but she meant to make him Nana's size. Will have to post those later!

Christmas with the Fraziers

This year we had our first Tennessee Christmas and it was a WHITE Christmas!! The kids learned a "Snow Dance" which has brought about 9" of snow and in some spots possibly about a foot deep!! And we got snowed in at Kim's mom's house! But like all good stories, let's start at the beginning....

Christmas started early in this household with the birth of our niece, Alexis Claire Ulrey, born November 30, 2010! We went down about a week and a half later for Christmas with Gramie Kunkle and the kids cousins. They were so excited to play with Aidan and Alyssa and as always had a blast with all their new Christmas toys!
Gramie gave the kids pjs with their names!!
I don't know how Gramie's hair is windblown, but thought the pic is too cute!

Then the Sunday before Christmas, we had special music with the youth group, our choir and Kim playing prelude music...and as you can imagine, the kids were so good and adorable!

You know they loved being in front with a mic!
There were motions to the songs that Hannah is showing!
Kim also had the chance to play for our Carol Sing that night!
Then we were back about two weeks later to Amber's for a quick visit and Christmas with Grandpa and Grandma Frazier! And the kids were able to see their uncle Jon, and "play, play, play"

And on Christmas Eve, Kim and Andy cleaned house (with help from a friend) to have an open house for after the Christmas Eve Candle Light Service....we wanted to give the church (and anyone else who was able) a chance to see the changes we have made and all the hard work they put in this summer.

And lo and behold, a baby was born this day (some 2000 years ago...) to become our Savior: Happy Birthday Jesus!

Christmas dawned bright and early with light snow flurries
and gifts under the tree....were finally revealed!

Our Christmas Breakfast
But our Christmas was too private for pictures!  ;-) I will have to find a way to get snapshots from the video or how to load our Christmas video on this blog...but for now...we go to our Christmas dinner at Kim's mom's which brought more presents to open:  (I don't know why the pictures are kinda messed up!?!)

Trying out some of our new snow gear!
Then we got snowed in!?! On our way home, the roads were very slick and frozen and it was pretty scary (to me, Kim!) so we decided it was best to stay the night!!

Once we were back, we found it snowed here a good 5 or 6" and it's still snowing!! As of Monday morning, it looks like 9" on our table on the front porch. I know there are deeper drifts, especially in the back where the snow blows off the mountains and the drifts up between our house and garage. It is especially beautiful until we go out and play, leaving big tracks!!

Merry Christmas from the Fraziers

What a year it has been for our family! As all of you know, last year around this time we were in a pretty tough spot with a lot of uncertainty about the future. This year we're reflecting on everything, filled with amazement and gratitude for all that God has done and those he used to give us the love, support, and guidance we needed. Our biggest news of the year was clearly that we moved to Erwin, TN for Andy to begin a new job as Youth Minister at First Christian Church in June. We're not sure how many of you know the full story, so if you'll bear with us we want to share it with you in hopes that you too can be amazed and grateful at what God has done.

In October of 2009, Andy got the news that he was being let go from the Youth Minister position at Dade City Christian Church at the end of the year. We were devastated by the news, but not in disagreement that it was what was best for everyone, even though we had no clue what was next for us. The entire church, including the leaders who made the tough decision, could not have been more loving and gracious to us as we left. We have many wonderful memories in that place, with those people and they will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

Initially, we tried to find a church in Florida, and early in the year had some promising leads, including a church in Groveland where Andy would have been the Minister and that would have allowed us to stay in our house in Dade City. To put it lightly, that didn't work out, and by February our inability to find any work made it clear that we would definitely need to move, broaden our job search and consider some other "last resort" options like moving in with family that had graciously offered to take us in for a time. We put our house on the market and began packing for the inevitable move. Along the way we had several opportunities to visit other churches to see friends, family, and get ideas for the future which was a fun experience.

From that broader search we began pursuing some leads up in the Georgia area in March and went up for a visit to see if we could even find other work in the Adairsville area. in case we decided to move in with the Ulreys. At that time Andy spoke with a church and Kim got an interview at a Chick-Fil-A, but again it just didn't work out. When we returned home, Andy started up the local job search again and was hired on the spot at a local Chili's restaurant. It wasn't enough to live on long-term but bought us some time to keep looking and gave us the flexibility to be out of town if needed.

In April we celebrated Hannah's 4th birthday. It was a little bittersweet to realize it would likely be her last in the house we bought a week before we she was born. Soon after we learned about an opportunity at a small church in east TN from Andy's sister, Amber. We began talking with some of the church leaders, arranged a visit later in the month while staying with Kim's mom and step-dad in Mountain City. On the surface it wasn't the largest most amazing church we had ever been to, but we loved the people and felt like it was a great fit for us. It soon became clear to us that this was the opportunity we had been waiting for God to call us to.

Throughout the month of May we continued Andy's job search, in case things didn't work out :-). We went down to south Florida to look into another church opportunity and visit Andy's family, but our hearts were already set on Erwin. After much anticipation we finally got the news from the church in Erwin that they had unanimously decided to offer Andy the position. Once the new job's start date was decided Andy put in his notice at Chili's and we began more aggressively packing, selling stuff at yard sales, and making other arrangements to move to Tennessee. We also temporarily moved in with Kim's dad to save on the cost of utilities and aid in our final packing.

In June, we got the sad news that Aaron Stamper, the son of the minister at FCC Erwin who had been battling a rare form of leukemia for nearly a year, had died. We had actually learned about Aaron on the website of a church in Memphis, TN that Andy was looking into several months before we ever heard of Erwin and had been praying for him since that time. We were going through one of those times when we were feeling kind of sorry for ourselves about our circumstances and learning about his life and struggles and faith through it sort of put our situation in perspective. So when we heard the news of his passing it wasn't a difficult decision to decide to drive up immediately for the memorial service, a week earlier than we had previously planned to leave Florida.

We loaded up our van with most of the day to day possessions we had brought to Kim's dad's house and made arrangements to stay at Kim's mom's house for a couple weeks while final renovations were being made on the church parsonage where we would be living. We left at some crazy hour like 9pm for the 12 hour drive  through the night, hoping to arrive in time to go to church that morning and be at the memorial service in the evening. As we were driving through the mountains of North Carolina, about 20 minutes from Erwin, the van started overheating and smoke started pouring out of the hood. Our radiator had sprung a major leak and left us stranded on the road at the end of a long drive with 2 energetic preschoolers who were just waking up. :-)

Needless to say we never made it to church that morning. We called Kim's mom and step-dad to come help us out and since we had tons of food with us we had some breakfast and tried to keep the kids entertained. When they arrived we were able to add some water in the leaking radiator and get up to the top of the mountain to the Tennessee welcome center. From there we added more water and managed to coast down the other side of the mountain the rest of the way to Erwin with no problems and waited for a friend of their's from Mountain City to tow the van to their house so we could change out the radiator later. That night, Andy and Kim drove down for the service, and learned a lot about a pretty amazing young man and the impact he made on many lives in a short time.

Since then quite a lot has happened in our new lives in Erwin and at the church we now serve. We've settled in to the new house, taken in a lot of the beautiful local scenery, made lots of new and wonderful friends, said goodbye to some of those new and wonderful friends, enrolled Hannah and Noah in preschool, took Noah back out of preschool (it didn't work out :-D), enjoyed our first family experience of the colors of fall and wonders of snow and have learned a little more each day about why God might have brought us here both for our benefit and we hope the benefit of others. Looking back it's hard not to feel very blessed and say in true "It's a Wonderful Life" fashion, we're the richest family in town.

I know that not everyone who may read this among our family and friends will necessarily understand the choices we've made this past year or agree that God was somehow leading us to a certain place to do a certain thing through our circumstances. That's OK with us if you just see it all as coincidence or luck that things worked out for us. For our part though, we feel like we've walked a difficult road of faith this year, trusting God when it wasn't easy, and at the end of it we found God to be faithful in all his promises. As we celebrate Jesus this week, and every week, we are looking forward to the fulfillment of the greater promises of Jesus in our lives and yours too. May 2011 be for you a time of walking the road less traveled and finding God faithful in your life as well. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Fraziers!
